Christmas Carriage Ride in Central Park NYC

By NYC Royal Carriage Team in Holiday & Seasonal

Updated October 23, 2026, for the November 21, 2026–January 9, 2027 holiday season.

A Christmas carriage ride can be a quiet Central Park outing or an evening trip past Midtown's holiday sights. The route you book makes the difference. NYC Royal Carriage offers three 40-minute Christmas rides, each with its own itinerary and departure window. This guide explains what is included, where to meet and how to choose the right ride for your visit.

Christmas carriage rides: dates, prices and routes

Our Christmas season runs from November 21, 2026 through January 9, 2027. During this period, the Christmas collection replaces the regular seasonal tour menu. These website packages are private carriage rides for up to four guests, with a licensed driver, narration and warm blankets. Prices below are per carriage; check the selected date and final booking summary for the current total and available extras.

Central Park Christmas Ride — 40 minutes, $240 per carriage

Choose this route when the park is your priority. The itinerary features the Bethesda Terrace area, views toward the Lake and Bow Bridge, Sheep Meadow and Tavern on the Green. Daytime and evening departures are offered, subject to the booking calendar. Daylight is useful for seeing the park's landscape; an evening departure offers a different atmosphere with the surrounding city skyline. This park route does not include a trip to Rockefeller Center.

Central Park & Holiday Avenue Ride — 40 minutes, $240 per carriage

This evening option combines the southern park with the surrounding avenue sights. The route includes landmarks such as Wollman Rink, the Carousel, Chess & Checkers House, the Dairy, the Mall, the Central Park Zoo area, Gapstow Bridge, the Plaza Hotel, Sheep Meadow, Tavern on the Green and Columbus Circle. Departures begin from 7:00 PM on available dates. It is a different itinerary from the Rockefeller ride, so select it for the park-and-avenue combination rather than expecting a Rockefeller Center visit.

Rockefeller Christmas Lights Ride — 40 minutes, $320 per carriage

Choose this option for Midtown's Christmas sights. Departures begin from 8:40 PM on available dates. The itinerary takes in the Plaza Hotel, Trump Tower, Saint Thomas Church, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Saks Fifth Avenue and Radio City Music Hall. Street access, traffic and event closures can affect the route and views. This is a continuous sightseeing ride: there are no scheduled street photo stops at Rockefeller Center or St. Patrick's Cathedral, and no admission to attractions is included.

Compare the three Christmas routes and view available departures before choosing your date. All departure times are local New York time. Holiday exceptions, including New Year's Eve restrictions, are reflected in the booking calendar; a general evening schedule is not a promise of availability on every date.

Meeting point and arrival

Rides begin and end at 7th Avenue & Central Park South (59th Street). Follow the meeting instructions in your confirmation and allow extra travel time during the holidays. Midtown traffic and street closures can make a short journey take longer than expected. Keep your booking confirmation accessible on your phone.

Every ride requires a reservation; we do not take walk-up bookings. If your preferred departure is unavailable, check another time or date before making the rest of your plans. For parties larger than four, contact us about the number of carriages required rather than booking one carriage for the whole group.

What the ride feels like in winter

The carriage is an outdoor experience. Warm blankets are provided, but dress for sitting outside: a warm coat, layers, gloves, a hat and comfortable shoes make a real difference. Check the forecast shortly before departure and bring a charged phone or camera. Snow, decorations and specific lighting displays depend on weather and event schedules; they are not guaranteed parts of every ride.

Carriages follow designated carriage routes. A landmark mentioned in an itinerary may be seen from the carriage or from a nearby viewpoint; it does not imply entry to the building, a walk across a bridge or a stop on a pedestrian path. If a particular view or photo opportunity matters to you, check the selected tour's details before booking.

Planning a celebration or proposal

Tell us about a special occasion before your ride so we can explain the available arrangements. Flowers, photography and other extras are included only when explicitly listed in the package you purchase. A standard Christmas ride should not be assumed to include a photographer, champagne or a proposal stop. For a planned engagement, review our Proposal tours or contact the team to confirm the right arrangement for your date.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ride on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

Both dates fall within the Christmas season. Use the live booking calendar to check departures and remaining availability for your chosen route. Reserve before planning around a specific time.

Does every Christmas ride visit Rockefeller Center?

No. Select the Rockefeller Christmas Lights Ride for the Midtown itinerary. The Central Park Christmas Ride and Central Park & Holiday Avenue Ride have different routes.

Can I get out for a photo in the street?

The Rockefeller and avenue portions do not offer scheduled street photo stops. The route description for the exact package you book is the guide to any included stops; do not assume that regular Royal Tour photo stops are included in a 40-minute Christmas ride.

What happens if the weather prevents the ride?

If we cancel because conditions are unsafe, we offer rescheduling or a full refund. For changes or cancellations you request, review the current booking terms and your confirmation. Contact us if you need help before departure.

Can a guest remain seated in a wheelchair?

Guests must transfer to the carriage seat; the ride is not a wheelchair roll-on experience. Contact us before booking to discuss boarding and mobility-equipment storage requirements.
